“The Field” Sale Update

At the first of May, BHA was contacted by John Griess who is the Real Estate Agent seeking to sell the property at the front of the subdivision.  We were informed that the property is back on the market and will not be used to build the daycare center as originally proposed.  As the BHA is contacted about new potential buyers, BHA members will be notified.

Tax Update

Last Fall the BHA learned that it owed the IRS for Federal taxes spanning 12 years.  The returns were filed, the BHA was billed, and taxes were paid.  While we were charged a penalty and interest on the amount, the IRS has agreed to remove the penalty.  We now owe a little over $1400 to the IRS.  Due to low membership, the BHA cannot pay the total bill at once.  We are choosing to pay a lump sum, and to save just about $250 to get by for another year.  As you can tell from this newsletter, every attempt is being made to keep the association afloat.  Thanks to all who have chipped in to help.  Thanks also to all who participate in the BHA.  We hope you will all join in the fun!

What is a block captain and who is mine?

In order to keep communication open in such a large subdivision, BHA is divided into “blocks.”  These captains have agreed to distribute newsletter to the people on their “block” and to be the point person for the Neighborhood Watch program.  This position is essential in keeping the BHA on the right track.  If your block is open and you’d like to help, please contact Mikki Casselman.

Yard of the Month

Beginning July 1, BHA will be honoring one homeowner with the “Yard of the Month.”  The homeowner will receive a sign to place in their yard which will be passed along on the first of each month.  If you would like to nominate someone, send an email to lizahutchison@yahoo.com.  The BHA officers will vote on a yard and deliver the sign.

WORN AND DAMAGED FLAGS: I have seen flags so worn that they no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country.  The Boy Scouts Troop 141 is starting a campaign to collect worn and damaged flags so they can be retired in a dignified manner.  For more information contact Victor Peña at victorsp@netscape.net Or you can visit our website at www.bsatroop141.com

CATS AND DOGS: We are continually reminded about the speed limit in the subdivision--can we remind everyone about the leash law in existence?  I have lost over $50 in new plants that have been dug up in my gardens.  How do I know it's a dog or cat and not some other animal?  The heavy, stacked rocks have been knocked down which is not something a squirrel or rabbit might be capable of.  And the plants are not eaten, they are just pulled up and tossed aside!  I think it may be the organic fertilizer that is attracting the culprit(s).  Also, the other night, we saw a dog helping himself to someone's overfilled trash cart on Buxton Drive at the corner of Moorgate.  At any rate, there is a leash law and Knox County Animal Control is more than happy to loan out traps to people who have problems with undesired animal visitors.
